2-channel video
c. 60 min.
Two channel video: one channel document of private performance, and one channel edited archival footage. I draft a short 8-minute speech using bits of archival footage of slain Black Panther Party member Fred Hampton, and dub it to videotape. I then record myself attempting to memorize his speech (or my speech using his words), playing, pausing, reciting, rewinding, reciting again, rewinding, and playing again, over the course of just over an hour until the miniDV tape runs out. (I do not accomplish the memorization in entirety.) The second channel of video, featuring the edited speech I am trying to memorize, moves back and forth in sync with my pacing and delivery of the material as observable in the performance-document video.
